The ‘Gay’ Identity Construct

Responding to the ‘Gay Christian’ Ideology and Other Like Subjects

PART I
The ‘Gay’ Identity Construct

What is ‘Gay’ About This?…

A husband says,
“I love my wife.
I very much enjoy sex with my wife.
My wife and I have pro-created three children together whom I also love.
My wife and I made a covenant in the presence of God, our families, and friends that we would be married ‘until death do us part’.
We are both followers of Jesus”

What’s ‘gay’ about that, right?

Yet, the wife may introduce her husband this way, “This is my husband.  He’s Gay.”

What’s a guy need to do to self-identify as heterosexual?!

Note: the husband does not self-identify as bi-sexual.

Confusing?  Exactly.  That’s one of my points.  When most people hear ‘gay Christian’ they think this is an individual who believes that homosexuality and Christianity are compatible, and proclaim that God blesses same-sex sexual relationships.  The husband above uses the same term, ‘gay Christian’ to identify himself, but this time it means having a ‘gay identity’ yet holding strongly to the Biblical sexual ethic: one man with one woman in a permanent and monogamous marital relationship.  Same term but two different meanings.  It’s confusing.

That is one of many disagreements I have with those who identify as “gay Christian”.  I know we serve a God of clarity and distinctions if you will.  It is clearly visible from what is seen that the male and female bodies are designed and intended for opposite-sex sexual relations (heterosexuality) and therefore embracing the heterosexual identity that goes with that is congruent.”

Additionally, I don’t find anywhere is God’s Word that He ascribe an individual his or her identity according to their temptation.  According to Ephesians 1, we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing; we have been chosen, adopted, redeemed, forgiven, grace-lavished, unconditionally loved, accepted, pure, blameless and forgiven.   I see God the Father identifying his children by words associated with victorious and redeemed.  Always positive identifying words

We are in Christ and His identifiers can never be altered by what we do, feel, how we behave or are what our tempted is.

Here is another way I disagree with the ‘gay Christian’ term for self-identification.

Social Construct
‘Gay’ is a social construct. ‘Gay’ as an identity is a manmade construct. It is not from God, The Creator. The gay-identity construct came about in the late ‘60’s/early ’70’s around the time of the Stonewall Riots. Up to this point, men and women who engaged in sexual behavior or had romantic/emotional attractions to those of the same sex were not ascribed an identity. Pre ‘gay’ identity the term homosexual was used as an adjective and not as a noun to describe individuals who engaged in same-sex sexual behavior.

It is worth saying here that there is no definitive or conclusive evidence that same-sex attrition is inborn.  See my blog, What If… .

Continuing on with the ‘Gay’ Social Construct

David Benkof explained, “…scholars of gay history and anthropology…almost all LGBT themselves…have decisively shown that gayness is a product of Western society…They’re saying nobody was gay (or straight)…homosexuality was generally something one could do, not something one could be… that means being gay is in the software of some people’s lives, but it’s in nobody’s hardware.”

Yale and NYU leftist sexual historian Jonathan Ned Katz’s statement, “Contrary to today’s bio-belief, the heterosexual/homosexual binary is not in nature, but is socially constructed, therefore deconstructable.”

In Michael W. Hannon’s insightful essay, “Against Heterosexuality,” he argues the heterosexual-homosexual distinction misleads in pretending not to be a social construct but an innate natural category.

The enemy of our souls, Satan, is attacking the core identities of God’s created ones and is working overtime to separate us from who we are designed and intended to be. Mistaken identity has a high price as we can see by the growing chaos in our society.

Apostle Paul warned, “Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ” (Colossians 2:8)
