Femininity – Be Uniquely You

Femininity

The capacity to be; that state out of which comes the power to respond to God and to others.  The feminine receives and broods over the good gifts given by other; it is quality of being that seeks union and connection with realities outside of oneself.  The feminine nourishes relationship.  Out of union with the Creator, the one in touch with this essential attribute will impart life to others.  Discernment and wisdom also flow out of this responsive faculty when it is joined with God.  Feminine ways of knowing issues out of intuitive faculties that may defy the ration and observable.*

My wife and daughter heard from God separately and at the same time regarding each woman knowing she is uniquely BEAUTIFUL!  They were each impressed with God’s desire to affirm each woman’s unique beauty.

One of the ways they set out to affirm each woman’s beauty was to create a T-shirt with the Scripture verse from Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”  The T-shirt is seen in the image above.

Ladies are not to reflect another woman’s expression of femininity.  God has an expression of femininity particularly for you, uniquely yours and that only you are to reflect.

Here are five general character qualities that I hope may help women and your feminine character development.

Blessings on you ladies.  You are beautiful!

Credo (Beliefs)

Please note that all the characteristics presented below are all attributes of God. God is the purest and most radiant image bearer of the feminine (and masculine). Gen 1:27

· I believe that male and female together (within marriage) most greatly reflect the image and character of God.

· I believe that single individuals can and do reflect both masculine and feminine qualities Galatians 3:28. With that said,

· I believe that male is to mostly reflect the masculine qualities of God and female is to mostly reflect the feminine qualities of God.

· I believe that masculine qualities are not exclusive to male (and likewise with feminine qualities).

· Moving towards Christ-likeness we reflect our God-given gender identity and roles more fully.

Characteristics of God that I categorize into feminine attributes.

Intuitive –

Knowing from within, using or based on what one senses or feels to be true even without conscious reasoning; instinctive.

I talked with one woman who describes women as being trans-logical.  I think that explanation is terrific!

I coach women to respect their intuition. I tell them to give their intuition attention. I believe that a female’s intuition is to be given a sincere listening ear and serious consideration.

Responsive Receptivity –

The act of yielding (with the qualifier of: to someone you trust).

Let me first hit you with this one: Men: we are all feminine posture in relation to God, that is we are to be RECEPTIVE to Him.  We are all, men included striving to be in a posture of receptivity and responsiveness (feminine) before God.  Women, I believe it is more in their nature to reflect this posture of responsive receptivity.

Mary, the mother of Jesus reflected this responsive receptive posture – “I am the Lord’s servant … may it be to me as you have said.” (Luke 1:38).

Jesus, himself submitted to the will of the Father.  The apostle Paul, in Philippians 2, says that Jesus was willing to voluntarily surrender His awesome godly power and position for our sakes, telling us: “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped [i.e., tightly held onto and not let go of], but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:5-8).

A woman can be in a position of responsive receptivity to the husband because their husband’s character is like Jesus, like a Savior. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” As the husband submits to God the wife submits to her husband (Eph 5: 21- 25).

Women have a great capacity for responsive receptivity.

Commitment –

Follow thru/loyal/permanency.  I have witnessed the loyalty of women to their relationships at times and it is astounding to me.  It is the feminine that remains, maintains and calls individuals to recenter themselves on their relational commitments (friendships, marriage, family, God).  Women are often the glue that holds relationships together.

Like the nature of God, women reflect the commitment God has to his relationships with His people. “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). Even when God’s people have been unfaithful to Him and His ways He is committed to his people.

And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29).

God must graft all who become His servants into the family of Abraham, and God has bound Himself by a series of covenants to accomplish this.” (Romans 11:13).

Commitment to another even to the point of laying down one’s life – Hosea 13:8

Nurturer –

One of the ways this characteristic of femininity can be seen is through a woman conceiving life within her own body – a baby.  She begins the transfer of life-sustaining nutrients to the life within her.  The feminine provides life-giving resources throughout her existence to all around her.  The feminine is gifted with the ability to bring about a life through relationship.

She can be long-suffering, persevering and sacrificial in the relationships around her.  So it is with The Creator of us!

God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:5).

Jesus says, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35). He is the nourisher!

He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17).

For in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children” (Acts 17:28).

Compassion –

Knowing and feeling the depth of pain within another and having an all-encompassing desire to remove the source of hurt, suffering or pain.

Like the Father-God, He looked down on creation in its sin-sick-chaos state and moved with compassion sent Jesus. “The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death” (PS 102: 19 & 20).

The feminine character reflects great compassion, endless mercy, abounding love and salvation! (Hosea 11:1 – 4)
